Tech’s TaQuon Marshall Added to Maxwell Award Watch List

Oct. 6, 2017

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech quarterback TaQuon Marshall is one of 13 student-athletes that has been added to the watch list for the 2017 Maxwell Award, the Philadelphia-based Maxwell Football Club announced on Friday.

The Maxwell Award has been given to America’s College Player of the Year since 1937.

Marshall leads the Yellow Jackets in rushing with 523 yards on the ground and passing with 333 yards through the air for a total of 856 yards on the season. The junior quarterback also is responsible for 13 touchdowns (nine rushing and four passing) with his nine rushing touchdowns being the most by any quarterback in the nation and tied for the second most nationally among any offensive player.

With the Yellow Jackets on a bye this week, Marshall heads into play this weekend atop of the ACC in rushing touchdowns (nine), total touchdowns (nine), rushing yards (523), and total points scored (54).

In the first start of his career in the season-opener versus Tennessee, Marshall set three school records and one ACC record. His 249 rushing yards were the most rushing yards in Tech history and in the ACC by a quarterback, while his five rushing touchdowns and 44 rushing attempts were both Georgia Tech records by a player at any position.

Semifinalists for the 81st-annual Maxwell Award will be named on Oct. 30 and three finalists will be unveiled on Nov. 20. The winner of the 2017 Maxwell Award will be announced as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec. 7. The formal presentation of the award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala on March 9, 2018 in Atlantic City, N.J.

Georgia Tech football (3-1, 2-0 ACC) looks to move to 3-0 in ACC play next Saturday, Oct. 14, when it travels south to take on the Miami Hurricanes (3-0, 1-0 ACC). Game time will be announced early next week.

The Yellow Jackets have three home games remaining in 2017 in Wake Forest (Oct. 21), Virginia Tech (Nov. 11) and Georgia (Nov. 25).
