WACO, Texas – Georgia Tech men’s tennis sophomore Marko Rajevac defeated rookie teammate Zachary Rath to win the Green Singles draw consolation bracket of the Baylor Intercollegiate in Waco, Texas. The tournament was held at the Varsity Courts on the campus of Baylor University.
In the semifinal round, Rajevac advanced to the final via a walkover against Texas Tech’s Teddy Diblasi, while Rath needed three sets to down Texas’ Petri Van Rensburg. After dropping the first set by a 6-1 score, Rath rebounded to win the second set with little trouble by a 6-3 count. He then held on for a 6-4 third-set victory to win the match.
In the finals, Rajevac took an early lead on his younger teammate, claiming a 6-1 win in the opening set. Rath knotted the match at a set apiece with a 6-4 win, but Rajevac returned the favor in the third set, as he took win in a tiebreaker to claim the match 7-6.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action next weekend at the Icy Hot/ITA All-American Championships in Chattanooga, Tenn. The pre-qualification round will get underway on October 3.
