ATLANTA – A trio of Georgia Tech freshmen, Cristan Duvall, Ashlee Kidd and Jennifer Sims, will compete at the 2004 USATF Junior National Championships this Friday-Sunday, June 25-27, in College Station, Texas. The U.S. national championship meet will begin on Friday at 2:45 p.m.
Duvall held Tech’s top time for the season in the 3,000-Steeplechase with a mark of 8:42.15. The Duluth, Ga., native finished sixth at the Outdoor ACC Championships in the steeplechase and will compete in the finals of the event on Sunday, June 27, at 7:03 p.m. ET.
Kidd qualified for the Outdoor NCAA Championships, June 9-12, earning All-America honors in the 4x400m relay. Kidd ran the second leg of the 4x100m relay team that finished sixth and tallied a 19th-place finish in the 400 meters. The St. Petersburg, Fla., native won ACC crowns in the 400 for both the indoor and outdoor seasons en route to being named ACC Indoor and Outdoor Rookie of the Year. Her time of 51.76 is currently third best in Tech history on the all-time outdoor performance list. Kidd is scheduled to run in the 400 prelims on Friday night at 7:45 p.m. ET.
Sims led the Yellow Jackets in the 800 meters this season, posting a Tech best time of 2:09.00 at the Georgia Tech Invitational. The Woodstock, Ga., native stands fifth on Tech’s all-time outdoor performance list in the 800 and tallied a 21st-place finish at the outdoor ACC meet. Sims is scheduled to compete in the 800 at 5:50 p.m. ET.
