LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 6) — Georgia Tech senior indoor track and field athlete Andria King won the 60 meters, 200 meters and 60 meter intermediate hurdles Saturday in new meet records at the Rod McCravy Memorial at Lexington, Ky., on the campus of the University of Kentucky. No team scores were kept in the meet.
King, a native of Atlanta, posted meet records in the 60 meters (7.37), 200 meters (23.52) and 60 intermediate hurdles (8.28), all of which also met provisional standards for the NCAA Indoor Championship meet. She bettered her own school records in the 60 meters, which she had set earlier in the year at the Saluki Boosters Invitational at 7.41 and in the 200 meters, after running a 23.79 a year ago in the ACC Championship meet. She has already automatically qualified in the 55 high hurdles, in which she was the 1998 NCAA Indoor national runner-up.
Sophomore Sara Pardue (Aurora, Colo.) won the 800 meters in a time of 2:11.6, while senior Lynn Houston (Prospect, Ky.) won the high jump in a mark of 5-8. The Jackets received a second place finish from Becky Megesi (Jonesboro, Ga.) in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:50.15 and Linda Lisska (Lawrenceville, Ga.) was third in a mark of 9:52.25.
The mens team did not have an individual winner, but senior Jonas Motiejunas (Phoenix, Ariz.) was third in the 400 meters in 46.61, while Michael Johnson (Littleton, Colo.) ran a 46.92 to place fourth and both provisionally qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championship. Techs 4×400 team was second with a time of 3:10.72.Brent Knight (Emporia, Kan.), who was fifth in the 800 meters in 1:52.62, while freshman Cordell Stallings (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was fifth in the 60 meter intermediate hurdles in 8.24 and senior Andre Snellings (Dayton, Ohio) was seventh in 8.41.
Tech will next be in action during the ACC Championships Feb. 19-20 at Rector Field House in Blacksburg, Va.
