CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Georgia Tech senior men’s tennis player Roger Anderson continued his outstanding play with a pair of wins to reach the semifinals of the ITA Region II Championship in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Anderson opened the day in fine fashion, quickly disposing of Florida State’s Romain Jurd in straight sets. He dropped only two games en route to the 6-1, 6-1 victory. In the quarterfinals, Anderson downed Duke’s Ludovic Walter in a three-set affair. Anderson won the first set by a 6-3 score, before dropping the second set by a 7-5 count. The third set was all Anderson, as he rolled to a 6-1 victory. He will next face Nicholas Monroe of North Carolina in the semis on Sunday at 9 a.m.
The Yellow Jackets’ other remaining singles competitor, Scott Schnugg, was unable to advance past the round of 16, falling to the Tar Heels’ Monroe in straight sets. Monroe dropped only four games in a 6-0, 6-4 victory.
The two finalists from the regional championships advanced to the National Indoor Championships, which begin on November 7 in Dallas, Texas. Full tournament results from the ITA Region II Championships are available at www.tennisinformation.com.
