Tech Women's Track Places Third At ACC Indoor Meet, While Men Finish Eighth

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams completed competition at the ACC Indoor Championships on Saturday afternoon with the women’s team matching the best finish at the meet in school history. The championships were held in Blacksburg, Va., on the campus of Virginia Tech.

The Yellow Jacket women finished third with a score of 83.50, placing behind team champion NOrth Carolina’s total of 144 points.

Tech was led by another ACC Champion in Alisha McClinton, who won the 60 meter event with a time of 7.53 seconds, for her first title and the Jackets’ second of the meet.

Tech had two other All-ACC performers on the day, as senior Becky Megesi finished third in the mile with a time of 4:54.45, and Mishanta Reyes was third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.53 seconds.

Other scorers in the meet for the Jackets included junior Angela Levens in the 20-lb. weight throw, as she was fourth with a toss of 55-9. Also, freshman Renee Metivier and sophomore Amy Dock were solid in the distance events, placing fifth and sixth in the 3,000 meters with times of 9:41.61 and 9:47.93.

Junior Sara Pardue rounds out the scorers, as she was eighth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:16.85.

On the men’s side, Tech placed eighth with 21 points, behind team champion Clemson with 181 points.

The Yellow Jackets were led by senior Clayton Porter, who earned All-ACC honors in the long jump by finishing third with a leap of 24-9.75. He was also seventh in the 60 meters with a time of 6.99 seconds.

Tech had a number of other scorers in the meet, as Keith Schler and Michael Massey were sixth and ninth in the high jump with heights of 6-8.57 and 6-6.75. Sharif Azim was seventh in the 400 meters with a time of 49.30, and Motrell Person finsihed ninth in the 60-meter hurdles, with a time of 8.18 seconds.

In the triple jump, Tech had a pair of top finishers, as Chris Crawley and Keith Sculer were fifth and sixth with jumps of 48-10.75 and 48-2.75 respectively.

Tech will return to Blacksburg next weekend to compete in the Virginia Tech Last Chance Meet, on February 23-24.
