Tech Women's Basketball Gains Fifth Seed in Upcoming ACC Tournament

Feb. 25, 2002

ATLANTA – Following a win by Clemson over NC State in the final Atlantic Coast Conference regular season game on Monday night, the Georgia Tech women’s basketball team learned that it will be seeded fifth in the upcoming ACC Tournament, March 1-4 in Greensboro, N.C., at the Greensboro Coliseum.

The Yellow Jackets, who finished the regular season with a 15-12 overall record and a 7-9 mark in ACC play, will be the fifth seed in the tournament for the second time in school history and will face fourth-seeded Virginia in the tournament’s quarterfinal round on Saturday (March 2) afternoon. The game will tip off at 2 p.m. and be broadcast live on the ACC’s Regional Sports Network, which includes Fox Sports Net South.

The winner of the Virginia-Georgia Tech game will face the winner of Friday night’s game between No. 1-seeded Duke and No. 9-seeded Florida State in the semifinals on Sunday at 1 p.m. That game will be shown nationally on Fox Sports Net.

Tech and Virginia split the season series in 2002, with each team winning on its home court. The Yellow Jackets claimed a 92-61 win in Atlanta, while the Cavaliers staged a second-half comeback to capture an 85-79 victory in Charlottesville. The meeting will be the seventh in the tournament between the two schools, with Virginia holding a perfect 6-0 record in the previous six encounters.

Tickets for the tournament can be purchased by calling Georgia Tech’s ticket office at 1-888-TECH-TIX, or by logging on to www.tickets.com.
