Storylines

  • Georgia Tech toppled No. 15 Virginia Tech 6-4 in game one of the four-game series last weekend for its first win over a ranked opponent since downing No. 11 Kentucky 7-1 on Feb. 22, 2020. Utility player Emma Kauf led the way at the dish going 2-for-3 with two homeruns, three RBI and three runs scored while right-hander Blake Neleman earned a complete game win from the circle.
  • The Jackets continue to flex their power this season as they’re currently third in the ACC and 27th in the NCAA in home runs per game (1.25).
  • Georgia Tech has three different batters that have jacked eight homeruns on the season (Kauf, Cameron Stanford and Crosby Huckabay). Five more Jackets currently have six or more dingers, and eight total Jackets have gone yard multiple times this season.
  • Along with that power, Tech has efficiently put runners on, ranking third in the conference in on-base percentage (0.380).
  • In the field, the Yellow Jackets have displayed solid glove work this season as they’re marked third in the ACC in fielding percentage (0.969).
  • A pair of Jackets have earned ACC Player of the Week recognition this season as sophomore catcher Emma Kauf earned ACC Player of the Week and sophomore pitcher Blake Neleman was named ACC Co-Pitcher of the week for their performances in the season opening Buzz Classic.
  • Senior first baseman Tricia Awald brings power and consistency as she’s currently third in the ACC in on-base percentage at (0.534).
  • Senior utility player Breanna Roper has been among the conference’s best in making her way around the base path this year as she’s third in the league in runs per game averaging 0.94 per contest.
  • Neleman retains some of the best marks of the pitching staff, tossing six complete games for wins with a pair of shutouts. Following her complete-game win over No. 15 Virginia Tech last weekend, the Marietta, Ga. native has piled up 62 strikeouts in 63 2/3 innings of work.

Series Notes

  • Georgia Tech narrowly trails Troy in the all-time series, 13-14.
  • The Yellow Jackets have faired well on the road, sitting at 6-4 against the Trojans away from The Flats.
  • Georgia Tech has won the previous two contests, taking a 5-1 road win in 2019 and a 2-1 win at Mewborn Field in 2016.
