Tech Tennis Begins ITA Regionals Friday Morning

Oct. 22, 2004

Tuscaloosa, Ala. – Georgia Tech’s women’s tennis team will compete in the ITA South Regional Championships beginning Friday morning and continuing through Monday, October 25 at the University of Alabama’s Tennis Courts in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

The singles finalists and doubles champion from the Regional will earn an automatic bid to the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, which begin November 4 at the University of Michigan. Eight of the nation’s top 50 singles players will be competing in Tuscaloosa, as well as a number of the country’s top doubles combinations.

Georgia Tech is well-represented in the event, as all eight members of the team will be competing. This will be the first competition of the fall for freshman Esther van Londen, who is returning from injury and is the top seed with Lindsey Stauss in the “B” doubles draw. In the “A” doubles bracket, freshman Kristi Miller and sophomore Alison Silverio are seeded fifth after posting a 9-1 record thus far this season, while juniors Kelly Anderson and Lyndsay Shosho are the No. 8 seed.

In singles action, Miller, at 15-1 this fall, earned the No. 7 seed in the “A” bracket, while Anderson and Shosho are seeded ninth and 11th, respectively.

Results from the ITA South Region Championships will be posted on www.ramblinwreck.com at the conclusion of each day’s competition.
