Tech Seeded No. 7 in 2022 ACC Tournament

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech softball earned the No. 7 seed in the 2022 ACC Softball Championship in Pittsburgh, drawing a matchup with No. 10 seed NC State on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. in the opening round. The winner will advance to face No. 2 seed Duke in the quarterfinals on Thursday at 5 p.m.

The tournament will be hosted by Pitt on May 11-14 at Vartabedian Field in Pittsburgh. Following quarterfinal action Thursday, semifinals will be held on Friday with the championship following on Saturday at 1 p.m. All tournament competition will be broadcast live on ACC Network up to the championship, which will be aired on ESPN2.

The Jackets (36-15, 11-13 ACC) swept the Wolfpack (33-22, 7-17 ACC) during the regular season, coming away with a mercy-rule victory in game two and outscoring NC State 17-2 over the course of the series. At the plate, graduate first baseman Tricia Awald roped a pair of dingers while junior catcher Emma Kauf was a near flawless 7-for-8 with two doubles and a triple. Junior pitcher Chandler Dennis led the way for the White and Gold in the circle, posting a flawless ERA with 13 strikeouts and a .091 batting average against, including a complete game one-hitter in game three.

A season ago, Georgia Tech earned a win in the opening round of the ACC Championship for the second consecutive time. Junior hurler Blake Neleman headlined the 2021 tournament by tossing a historic no-hitter on the way to a 6-0 victory over Syracuse. The Jackets hadn’t won an ACC tournament game since 2012 prior to 2019.

Tech is 35-33 in its history in the ACC Championship dating back to 1990. Along with four regular season titles, the Yellow Jackets own five ACC tournament titles. Georgia Tech was most recently crowned champion of the ACC by way of the tournament in 2012. Tech won both the regular season and ACC Championship tournament titles back-to-back in 2009-10 as well as in 2005. The Jackets’ first ACC Tournament title came in 2002, when they earned their first NCAA Regional berth in program history. The Yellow Jackets own winning records over six of their eight ACC  tournament foes over the years in Boston College (3-0), North Carolina (7-3), NC State (2-1), Syracuse (1-0), Virginia (10-8) and Virginia Tech (3-1).
