Tech Records Top Finishes on Day One at Vanderbilt

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech track & field teams its first day of competition at the Vanderbilt with several athletes placing in the top spots of their respective events.

Shanty Papakosta earned the best placement of all Tech athletes. Papakosta placed second in the women’s high jump with a mark of 1.68 meters (5-6).

In the long jump, Cameron O’Neal took home third place for the men with a mark of 7.69 meters (25-2.75). Mikayla Williams finished seventh for the women with a personal-best jump of 5.97 meters (19-7).

In the men’s pole vault open, Matthew Mazzacano came in third place (4.80m/15-9). McKinley Thompson and Omar Arnaout tied for seventh in the men’s high jump with a mark of 1.93 meters (6-4).

Sheleah Harris was the top performer in the running events. Harris placed second in the women’s 200m with a time of 24.36.

In the women’s 1000m, Riley Perlakowski and Kayla Rose ran career-best times. Perlakowski finished eighth with a time of 2:49.36 and Rose finished 11th with a time of 2:52.48.

Erin Fegans competed in the women’s 5000m, finishing in 11th place with a personal-best time of 17:48.73.

Tech returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 21 for the second day of competition at the Vanderbilt Invite.
