Tech Wraps up Homestand with Mercer

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech softball (4-0) will remain home to host Mercer (1-4) on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Mewborn Field. The Yellow Jackets remain undefeated after hosting the Buzz Classic while the Bears picked up their lone win over Loyola Chicago during Florida State’s Joanne Graf Invitational.

Storylines

  • Georgia Tech has outscored its opponents 28-8 to date.
  • The Yellow Jackets took a pair of wins over both Saint Joseph’s and Villanova during the Buzz Classic prior to the final game’s cancelation.
  • Tech has gone undefeated in the Buzz Classic for two consecutive years after a 5-0 run through the 2021 tournament.
  • Junior Blake Neleman tossed a career-high 13 strikeouts against Saint Joseph’s on Friday, fanning 12 of the 13 batters on the way to a complete game, 4-1 win. She followed that with a complete-game shutout in a five-inning mercy rule victory over Villanova, 11-0.
  • The Jackets are currently top 10 in the country and among the league’s best in multiple categories – third in the NCAA and second in the ACC in doubles per game (3), sixth in the nation and second in the conference in doubles on the season (12) and ninth in the land and third in the league in on-base percentage (0.488).
  • The White and Gold have been proficient at the plate overall, ranking 15th in the NCAA and fourth in the ACC in batting average (.379) while also placing 18th in the country and fifth in the conference in slugging percentage (.592).
  • Graduate senior slugger Tricia Awald is among the nation’s best at the dish, fifth in the country and leading the conference in on-base percentage (.812), ranking ninth in the nation and third in the league in batting average (.667) and sitting sixth in NCAA and leading the ACC in slugging percentage (1.333).
  • To date, Neleman is fourth in the country and leads the conference in hits allowed per seven innings (1.17). She’s also currently third in the conference in strikeouts (19).
  • Freshman Emma Minghini has gotten off to a hot start in her first collegiate season, ranking 10th in the nation and third in the league in RBI per game (2).
  • Awald, Minghini and junior catcher Emma Kauf all find themselves tied for third in the land in doubles this season with three apiece.

Series Notes

  • Georgia Tech leads Mercer 54-15 in the all-time series.
  • The Yellow Jackets have won the last four contests, including three home games and an 11-1 (6) mercy-rule victory on the road in the most recent matchup in 2020.
  • From 1991-96, the White and Gold claimed 25 straight games, the longest streak of the series.

Season tickets remain on sale and can be purchased HERE. Season tickets are located in the reserved chairback sections of Mewborn Field and cost $100 per seat. Season ticket members enjoy every game in the same seat for a discounted rate.

Group (10+) GA Bench: $2

Standing room only tickets will be sold for $2 each if all other sections are sold out. Georgia Tech students and faculty/staff can receive free admission to regular season home games while seats remain available by showing a valid BuzzCard at the entrance.
