Nov. 8, 2008

ATHENS, Ga. – Led by Austin Roebuck, the Georgia Tech men’s tennis team picked up five wins on day two of the Bulldog Scramble in Athens, Ga.

“Austin and Doug [Kenny] both played very well today,” head coach Kenny Thorne said. “They fought hard and it is good to see them both with 3-0 singles records so far in the tournament.”

Roebuck, a junior from Athens, Ga., teamed with sophomore Miguel Muguruza for an 8-5 doubles win over South Carolina’s Thomas Stoddard and Joseph Veeder before defeating Patrick Bandy of Kentucky 6-1, 6-2.

Also picking up singles wins on the day were sophomores Eliot Potvin and Doug Kenny. Potvin posted a 6-1, 6-4 result over Kentucky’s Will Beck while Kenny came back from a set down to defeat USC’s Thomas Stoddard 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. Kenny moves his singles record at the Scramble to 3-0.

Freshman Kevin King and sophomore Ryan Smith picked up Tech’s other doubles win on Saturday, taking down the Kentucky duo of Will Beck and Shane Collins 8-2.

The Jackets wrap up play at the tournament on Sunday with matches beginning at 10 a.m.
