ATLANTA – The 32nd-ranked Georgia Tech men’s tennis team snapped a four-match losing streak and returned home to record a 5-2 win over 51st-ranked William & Mary on Friday afternoon at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.
The Yellow Jackets (6-5) got things going early in the day, capturing a pair of doubles matches to claim the doubles point and a 1-0 lead in the match. Tech’s team of West Nott and Scott Schnugg defeated the Tribe’s (12-6) Joe Brooks and Jeffrey Kader at No. 2 by an 8-2 score, while Fabio Campos and Joao Menano downed Alexander Fish and Andrew James at No. 3 by an 8-6 count.
In singles play, the Jackets kept things rolling, winning four of the six matches to ensure the final margin. Tech’s Roger Anderson won at No. 1 by a 6-1, 6-0 score over William & Mary’s Geoffrey Russell and David Wright defeated the Tribe’s Sean Kelleher by a 6-3, 7-6 (5) score. Sophomore Scott Schnugg was the Yellow Jackets’ third singles winner of the day, as he downed Alexander Fish in straight sets by a 6-3, 6-1 count.
Tech’s fourth winner of the day was West Nott, who was victorious at No. 6, defeating Andrew James in straight sets by a 6-2, 6-2 score.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action on Tuesday, March 12, when they travel to Athens to face top-ranked Georgia in a match that will begin at 3 p.m.
