ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech swimming and diving team hosted the Alumni Meet this past Friday, Oct. 3, to open up the newly-renovated Georgia Tech Aquatic Center. The Jacket alumni cruised to an 124-26 victory over the current Jackets courtesy of adjusted scoring. The Intrasquad meet, held this morning in the Aquatic Center, witnessed a close, 98-90, win for the White team over the Gold.
“It was nice to have all the alumni back and open up our new facility,” said head coach Seth Baron. “It was an exciting weekend for our current athletes and the alumni. Everybody had a great time and I thought the athletes were really excited about getting the season started with our new home in the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center.”
Pacing the alumni were recent graduates Shilo Ayalon, Josh Hersko and Jorge Oliver. Ayalon won the 200-yard freestyle event with a time of 1:42.66, while Hersko finished fifth in the 50 free (21.37). Oliver finished second in the 50 backstroke (24.26) and third in the 100 free (47.16).
Three-time All-American Shilo Ayalon won the 200 free to help the alumni defeat the varsity team on Friday.

Also shining for the alumni were Sean Fitzgerald (1980), Theral Mackey (1999), Jack Oltman (1983) and Steve Justice (1980). Fitzgerald picked up wins in the 100 individual medley and 50 butterfly. Justice won the 50 back and 50 free, while teammates Mackey and Oltman won the 50 breaststroke and 100 free.
Competing in three events for the alumni was 1950 graduate Richard Avery. Avery swam the 50 back, 100 free and 50 breast.
Leading the Jackets in the Intrasquad Meet this morning were junior co-captain Lisa Hancock, sophomore Ashley Kracke and freshman Ryan Bishop. Kracke won the 200 free (1:59.07) and the 150 back (1:34.16). Bishop took top honors in the 150 breast (1:37.21) and 200 IM (1:58.68). Hancock won the 200 IM (2:12.98) and the 150 fly (1:33.81).
The Yellow Jackets will open up the regular season against Atlantic Coast Conference foe NC State in the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center on Saturday, Oct. 25. The Jackets and Wolfpack will face off at Noon.
