Tech Hosts South Carolina Sunday

Feb. 22, 2008

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team (6-1) will continue its nine-game season-opening homestand when it welcomes South Carolina (7-1) to the Bill Moore Tennis Center Sunday for a 1 p.m. match-up.

“South Carolina is one of four Southeastern Conference teams on our schedule and each match is very tough,” head coach Kenny Thorne said. “We are hoping for a good Georgia Tech Sunday crowd. I definitely expect an extremely competitive match based on our past matches.”

The two programs will meet for the 35th time with the Gamecocks leading the series, 7-26-1. Last season, the Yellow Jackets dropped a 4-3 decision to South Carolina on the road.

Tech is coming off a 6-1 win over a tough Furman squad last Sunday. Freshman Guillermo Gomez earned a win at No. 1 singles over Andy Juc, a match the Jackets dropped in last season’s meeting.

The Jackets close out their long homestand with a match against cross-town rival Georgia State next Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 2:30 p.m.
