Tech Duo Earns Spot in NCAA Doubles Semifinals

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s tennis doubles team, Andres Martin and Marcus McDaniel, earned themselves a spot in the NCAA Men’s Tennis Doubles Semifinals after taking home two victories today in the round of 16 and quarterfinals.

Martin and McDaniel started off the day with a round of 16 match against Michigan State’s Ozan Baris and Max Sheldon. The Jackets trailed by one for majority of the first set but after tying it at 6-6, Tech went 7-0 in the tiebreak to win 7-6 (7-0). Martin and McDaniel sealed the win with a 6-4 finish in the second set.

Later in the day, Martin and McDaniel faced off with Michigan’s Andrew Fenty and Gavin Young in the quarterfinals match. Tech carried its energy from the first match and dominated the Ann Arbor duo, earning a semifinals berth with a 6-2, 6-3 victory.

Tech will face No. 3 seeded Harper and Spizziri from Texas in the semifinals on Friday, May 26.

Martin/McDaniel (GT) def. Fenty/Young (MICH); 6-2, 6-3
