ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams will compete in Clemson, SC at the Clemson Invitational, to be held at behind the Jervey Athletic Center on the school’s campus. The women’s five-kilometer event will begin at 8:45 Saturday morning and the men’s eight-kilometer race will follow at 9:15 a.m.
The field includes teams from Appalachian State, Charleston Southern, host Clemson, Georgia, Lees-McRae, South Carolina State, and Western Carolina. East Tennessee State, Georgia Southern, and South Carolina will only field women’s teams, while Morehouse will compete only in the men’s race. This will be the final meet for the Jackets before competing in the conference championships on November 1st.
Katie Griffin will be competing in her second race in 2003, as she was the Jackets’ top runner a week ago at the Auburn Invitational, with a 12th place finish out of 272 finishers. Senior Amy Dock will be running in her first race this season, after earning all-South region honors a year ago.
Freshmen Kirby Cross and Mary Chind and senior Jennifer Lentz will also race this weekend, and all three have been steady performers around the top of the lineup for the Jackets throughout the season.
Freshmen Cristan Duvall and David Herren and sophomore Rob Kuhn will be leading the men’s team that finished second out of 29 teams in Auburn last weekend. Senior Kyle Rabbitt, winner of the 8K race last week, and senior Brendon Mahoney, who finished 9th, are not expected to run this weekend, but will return for the conference meet.
