Tech Cross Country Finishes Second at Georgia Intercollegiates

ATLANTA – Mary Chind and Clark Rivers both finished fifth in their respective races to lead the Georgia Tech cross country teams to second-place finishes among Divison I teams at the Georgia Intercollegiate Championships at Georgia State’s Panthersville course on Saturday morning.

The women scored 38 points in their race, finishing 13 points behind the first-place Division I team Georgia State, while the men earned 53 points. Georgia State’s men won the race, earning just 16 points in the event.

Chind led the women’s team with a 5K finish in 19:19.46, and she was followed in the standings by teammates Misty Dirksen (6th, 19:25.55), Ann Armbsy (7th, 19:44.00), and Catherine Spoth (8th, 19:45.60). Rounding out the scoring for the Jackets was Jessica Vaughn, who finished 12th among Division I scorers in 20:23.02.

Scoring behind Rivers for the Jackets was Daniel Moss (8th, 26:55.95), Chris dos Santos (11th, 27:15.59), Gaben Moore (14th, 28:01.78), and Michael Sinagra (15th, 28:12.33). Rivers led Tech with an 8K time of 26:40.47.

The Yellow Jackets will travel to Auburn, Ala. Friday to race in the Auburn Invitational, to be contested at the sight of the 2003 NCAA South Regional. It will be the first race for several of the top Tech competitors.
