Tech Closes Out Regular Season at Boston College This Sunday

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s tennis closes out the 2021 regular season on Sunday, April 18 on the road against Boston College in Weymouth, Ma. The No. 32 Yellow Jackets head into the weekend with an 11-8 record, sporting a 5-6 record in conference play.

The match will serve as both the Jackets and Eagles (2-11, 0-11 ACC)  final regular season competition prior to the start of ACC Men’s Tennis Championships in Rome, Ga., next week. Tech is fresh off a 5-2 win over Louisville last week at its last home competition of the year. Overall the Yellow Jackets are 79-46 (.632) in singles and 37-27 (.578) in doubles heading into the match.

No. 22 Marcus McDaniel and No. 40 Andres Martin are featured as Tech’s two ranked singles players according to the most recent ITA Singles Rankings. Four Yellow Jacket doubles pairings are rated in the most recent ITA Doubles Rankings with No. 38 McDaniel/Pablo Schelcher, No. 49 McDaniel/Martin, No. 56 Keshav Chopra/Martin and No. 79 Brandon Freestone/Schelcher representing the White & Gold. Boston College does not have any ranked singles players or doubles duos.

McDaniel owns a 15-3 dual match singles record, having gone 7-3 over his last ten matches. He is 10-3 this season when playing at position one. Chopra has won five consecutive singles matchups, with a 6-2 record on position four. Martin is 14-4 overall in doubles, having a 4-2 record against conference opponents. Collectively Tech holds a 28-22 singles record in conference play.

Sunday’s action will give Byers Men’s Head Tennis Coach Kenny Thorne an opportunity to get one last look at his lineup before ACC Championships. At the moment Tech is in eighth-place in the ACC, looking to finish the season off with a .500 conference record with a potential win.
