Taylor Grimes Qualifies for Quarterfinals at East Preliminaries

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Georgia Tech track & field began competition at the NCAA East Preliminaries on Thursday with Taylor Grimes clocking the 13th fastest time in the 100m hurdles. She will race again on Saturday to try to qualify for nationals.

Twelve athletes from Saturday’s 100m hurdles will qualify with NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore.

Grimes was in an extremely fast heat. The fastest time overall came from her heat and Grimes finished ahead of seven automatic qualifiers from other heats.

The Yellow Jackets had three other athletes competing on the day. The first was pole vaulter Olivia Moore who cleared her first two bars, the highest being 4.11m (13’ 5 ¾”), without any miscues, before being unable to clear 4.21m (13’ 9 ¾”).

The next two Jackets to compete were Lydia Troupe in the 400 hurdles and Nicole Fegans in the 10000m. Troupe turned in a time of 1:02.37 which was not good enough to qualify. Fegans was racing towards the front of the pack in the 10k before pulling off the track and not finishing.

The White and Gold will have one athlete competing on Friday when John Watkins competes in the triple jump. He is slated to start at 6 p.m.
