The Senior Day ceremony begins at approximately 10:40 a.m., and Tech will honor Eric Chiu (Martinez, Ga.), Michael Hart (Cincinnati, Ohio), Bo Hatchett (Demorest, Ga.), Chris Khosravi (Missouri City, Texas), Brandon Makinson (Calgary, Alberta), Kate Riley (Oak Ridge, N.C.), Colin Schouten (Lititz, Pa.), Zach Tillman (Dacula, Ga.), Matthew Vaughan (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Alexis Weber (Cumming, Ga.).
The meet also marks the regular-season finale for the Yellow Jackets, who continue their preparations for the ACC Championships that begin in three weeks in Greensboro, N.C.
Tech is looking to bounce back from a tough ACC double-dual meet on January 19 at NC State, where the Yellow Jacket men and women were downed by the host Wolfpack and Florida State. Vaughan, who’s bringing his senior season to a close in style, won the 200 breast in that meet and holds the ACC’s fastest time of the season in the 100 breast (54.72).
Tech newcomer Yuval Safra also made waves in his collegiate debut at NC State. Safra, an accomplished open water swimmer from Israel that enrolled at Tech during the semester break, put down a time of 9:24.63 in taking second overall in the 1,000 free. That time was a season-best for any Yellow Jacket, the eighth-fastest in school history and the fastest 1,000 time at Tech since Ryan Crete (9:16.53) in 2007.
