Stewart Named Campbell Trophy Semifinalist

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech kicker Gavin Stewart (Savannah, Ga./Benedictine Military Academy) is one of 201 semifinalists for the 2023 William V. Campbell Trophy, which is presented annually to college football’s premier student-athlete, the National Football Foundation announced on Wednesday.

Stewart earned a bachelor’s degree from Georgia Tech in business administration with a 3.84 grade point average in May and is now pursuing a master’s degree in analytics from the Institute. On the field, he has boomed 20-of-25 kickoffs for touchbacks this season (80%). For his career, he has forced touchbacks on 73-of-110 kickoffs and made 14-of-20 field goal attempts, including 12-of-13 last season.

Stewart is the second member of his family to be named a Campbell Trophy semifinal, as his brother, Brad – a wide receiver at Tech from 2015-18 – earned the honor in 2018.

The NFF will announce 12-14 Campbell Award finalists on Oct. 25, with each finalist receiving an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the 2023 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class. The winner of the 34th Campbell Trophy will be announced on Dec. 5 at the 65th-Annual NFF Awards Dinner in Las Vegas. Candidates must be in their final season of eligibility or have already earned a bachelor’s degree, hold a GPA of at least 3.2, have outstanding football ability as a significant contributor to their team and demonstrate strong leadership and citizenship.

Stewart and the Yellow Jackets return home to host Bowling Green this Saturday (Sept. 30) at Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. on ACC Network. Tickets are still available – click HERE to purchase online.

Be sure to arrive on The Flats early for Saturday’s game, as Helluva Block Party Driven by Hyundai will feature a pregame concert by multi-platinum country songwriter and artist Chris Janson. Click HERE for more information on Helluva Block Party.
