Katie Darby joined Georgia Tech’s sports medicine staff in September 2024 as assistant athletic trainer. She works primarily with the Yellow Jackets’ softball program.

Prior to her arrival on The Flats, Darby worked with the softball programs at UMBC (2022-24) and Jacksonville (2020-21) as an assistant athletic trainer. She also was also assigned to volleyball for two seasons at UMBC.

Coming to Georgia Tech marked a return to Georgia for Darby, as she was previously a student athletic trainer at Georgia Southern (2015-18) and a graduate assistant at Georgia State (2018-20). She assisted with football, men’s basketball, volleyball and women’s soccer during her undergraduate studies at Georgia Southern, then worked with softball, football and men’s and women’s tennis as a G.A. at Georgia State. She also had a summer internship at Clemson as an undergrad.

A member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, Darby earned an athletics staff appreciation award at UMBC in 2023 and an award for research merit at Georgia State in 2020.

She graduated magna cum laude from Georgia Southern in 2018 (B.S. – athletic training) and earned a master’s in sport administration from Georgia State in 2020.
