Chris May was named the director of athletic grounds and turf maintenance in May 2016 after serving as the interim director for five months. May came to Georgia Tech in April 2012 as the assistant sports turf manager and baseball field manager. He was promoted to assistant athletic director of athletic grounds in 2024.

He oversees all of Georgia Tech athletic grounds from historic Grant Field to landscaping around the McCamish Pavilion and everything in between, which includes over eight acres of natural grass athletic fields and the 12-acre Noonan Golf Facility.

In 2014, May and his staff received the 2014 Sports Turf Managers Association College and University Baseball Field of the Year Award for their work on Russ Chandler Stadium.

May, who grew up in East Cobb and attended Lassiter High School in Marietta, Ga., joined the GTAA staff after a year as the director of grounds and sports turf at The Westminster Schools from 2011-12.

May, who has over 15 years of grounds and turf maintenance experience, has also worked as the director of sports turf at Mercer University from 2008-11 and the assistant sports turf manager at Florida Atlantic University from 2005-08.

Originally from Tyler, Texas, May and his wife Lauren live in Smyrna, Ga.
