Six Jackets Named to All-ACC Outdoor Track & Field Academic Teams

June 30, 2010

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Six Georgia Tech student-athletes have been named to the 2010 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Track & Field Academic Teams, as announced by commissioner John Swofford on Wednesday.

Four members of the women’s team earned the honor for their work in and out of the classroom – senior Alana Clooten, sophomore Mary Kate DuBard, senior Tiffany Grant and junior Joanna Wright. Meanwhile, two members of the men’s team earned the honor for 2010 in junior Hunter Clasen and senior Billy Mateker.

With the selection, Clooten ends her career as a three-time All-ACC Academic selection. She capped off her time On the Flats with an ACC Outdoor Title in the hammer throw in April.

Wright also earned the honor for the third time and joins Clooten and three other ACC student-athletes on this year’s team who have earned the honor for a third time. Dubard earns a spot on the team for the second time, while Grant garners the honor for the first time in her career.

On the men’s side, Clasen makes the outdoor All-Academic squad for the first time, while Mateker, a 2009 and 2010 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American, earns the honor for the third time in his career and is one of only three members of this year’s team to earn the honor for the third time.

To be eligible for Scholar-Athlete of the Year, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade-point-average in each of the last two semesters and have maintained a 3.00 GPA throughout her career. Student-athletes must have earned a 3.00 GPA during the spring semester and own the same cumulative mark to be eligible for selection to the All-ACC Academic team.
