Schenscher Named ACC Rookie of the Week

Feb. 4, 2002

ATLANTA – Luke Schenscher, Georgia Tech’s freshman center from Hope Forest, South Australia, has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Week for playing a key role in Georgia Tech’s two ACC victories last week over Florida State (77-46) and North Carolina (86-74).

Schenscher averaged 7.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in 20 minutes of action while providing a defensive presence in the post. He was 7-for-8 from the field in the two games.

The 7-foot, 240-pound freshman had nine points on 4-of-5 shooting, five rebounds (including four offensive), one assist and one blocked shot in Tech’s win over Florida State. Against North Carolina Saturday, Schenscher had six points, five rebounds and two steals in 17 minutes. He blocked one shot and altered several others, contributing to another outstanding defensive effort.

Schenscher missed 12 games between Nov. 28 and Jan. 22 because of a broken bone in his left foot. He is averaging 4.3 points and 3.1 rebounds for the season.
