Powlen Leads Georgia Tech on Day One of ACC Championships

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Andy Powlen placed seventh in the men’s weight throw to lead the Georgia Tech men’s track & field team on the first day of the Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Eddie Smith Field House/Belk Track on the University of North Carolina campus.

Powlen, a junior from Kewanna, Ind., finished seventh with a mark of 50 feet, 7 ½ inches to score the first two points of the championship for the Jackets. Sophomore Steve Marcelle placed ninth in the weight throw event with a mark of 49 feet, 10 inches.

The championship meet will resume Friday with the men’s long jump at noon. Fans can follow a full day of action via live stats provided by flash results. Friday’s events will also be available to view on ACC Select.
