Pair of Jackets Invited to Nigeria FIBA World Cup Squad

THE FLATS – A pair of Georgia Tech women’s basketball Yellow Jackets, Elo Edeferioka and Liz Balogun, were invited by the Nigerian Basketball Federation to a 28-player preliminary squad for this year’s FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.

Balogun declined the invitation, while Edeferioka will report to camp on Wednesday, July 18, in Atlanta for the team’s preparation.

Edeferioka saw action in 30 games for the Jackets in her final season and started in 23. She led the team in rebounding, averaging 6.5 rebounds per game and finished third on the team in scoring, averaging 7.7 points per game.

Nigeria is making its first World Cup appearance since 2006 and will take on Group B opponents Australia, Turkey and Argentina. After the first phase of training in Atlanta, the team will return to Nigeria for the final phase of training camp before heading to Turkey for the remainder of their World Cup preparations.

The 2018 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup will take place in Tenerife, Spain, from September 22-30.
