TOP STORYLINES
• No. 7 Georgia Tech baseball comes off a red-hot series in which it downed then-No. 5 Georgia to take on another talented in-state foe in Mercer on Tuesday, March 8.
• Mercer is Tech’s fourth-most played opponent, standing at 171 games since 1897. The Jackets lead the all-time series 115-56 entering Tuesday.
• The 7th-ranked Jackets have proved to be every bit of the offensive powerhouse they were touted to be in the preseason. Through 12 games, Tech nationally ranks fifth 22 home runs, ninth with 137 hits and 10th with 117 runs.
• Chandler Simpson has been the spark plug for Tech, ranking third in the nation in hits (23) and runs (20). He’s batting .500 on the year with a .603 on-base percentage.
• Kevin Parada has also been unstoppable at the plate, leading the country with 24 hits, while ranking third in total bases (47) and RBI (21). He’s hitting .480 with a .559 OBP and just five strikeouts in 50 at-bats.
• Also red-hot at the plate are Drew Compton (.372), Tres Gonzalez (.333), Andrew Jenkins (.318) and Tim Borden II (.304).
• Borden hit two home runs against Georgia this weekend.
• John Medich will get the first start of his career at Tech this week after a solid start to the year out of the bullpen.
• Medich sports a 4.76 ERA and pitched 3.0 innings of one-run ball against Georgia State and one hitless inning against UGA.
• Tech’s pitching has continued to show its power as Chance Huff pitched a career-long 7.0 innings against UGA, holding them to three hits, a solo HR and striking them out six times.
• On Saturday the team combined for 13 strikeouts and had freshmen Cody Carwile and Aeden Finateri combine for six two-hit innings.
