FLORENCE, Ala. – No. 34 Georgia Tech collected a pair of non-conference wins on Tuesday at North Alabama. The Yellow Jackets pocketed a pair of 4-0 victories over the Lions to move to 11-9 on the season.
MATCH ONE: The Yellow Jackets opened the first match of the day sweeping doubles play. Returning to the top spot, Gia Cohen and Nami Otuska collected a 6-2 win over Claudia Arroyo and Payton Andrews before Victoria Flores and Nadia Gizdova clinched the point. Competing on court three, the Tech duo pocketed a 6-2 triumph over Nele Sietz/Sydney Flesch. Rounding out doubles play, Kenya Jones and Valeriya Deminova picked up a 6-2 win from court two. Heading into singles action with a 1-0 lead, Tech quickly secured the win with three straight-set singles victories. Cohen and Gizdova pushed Tech in the lead, 3-0, dropping only four games between the pair en route to two straight-set singles wins. Flores secured the win for Tech in the first match, claiming a 6-1, 6-1 victory on court five over Elisa Sickle for a 4-0 Yellow Jacket victory.
MATCH TWO: The non-conference foes played singles first in the second match of the day and Tech picked up four wins to clinch the match. Gizdova collected her second win of the day, defeating Sickle on court six, 6-0, 6-1, before Cohen edged Sietz on court four, 6-2, 6-0. Flores cushioned Tech’s lead from court five where the sophomore defeated Claire DeGeorge, 6-1, 6-1 before No. 13 Jones clinched the match from the top seed. Jones pocketed a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Andrews to seal the win for Tech, 4-0.
UP NEXT: Georgia Tech plays its final regular season road match on Sunday, April 7 visiting Clemson. First serve is slated for 3 p.m.
