No. 11 Georgia Tech to Face Clemson, Duke

THE FLATS – No. 11 Georgia Tech volleyball (11-4, 4-2 ACC) is set for another week of conference play, hosting Clemson (11-7, 2-4 ACC) for a midweek contest before heading to Duke (10-7, 1-5 ACC) to wrap up the week.

The Yellow Jackets will battle the Tigers on Wednesday at 8 p.m. in O’Keefe Gymnasium before hitting the road for the matchup against the Blue Devils on Friday at 6:30 p.m. in Durham, N.C. Tech’s match against Clemson will be broadcast on ACC Network, while the meeting at Duke will appear on ACC Network Extra.

Against Clemson, free parking will be available in the McCamish Pavilion lot, the East O’Keefe Gymnasium lot and the Family Housing lot.

Promotions

The match against Clemson will represent this season’s Think Pink match for breast cancer awareness. Fans are encouraged to wear pink. A pink mini fridge will be raffled off, and pink slap bracelets will also be handed out while supplies last. Fans may also donate to the Kay Yow cancer fund to support Georgia Tech’s battle against cancer.

  • Tech owns nine sweeps on the year after picking up another last weekend over Virginia.
  • The Jackets were ranked No. 11 in this week’s AVCA DI Coaches Preseason Poll.
  • The 11 spot ties the eighth-highest ranking received by the White and Gold in program history, joining the 2003 squad.
  • The Yellow Jackets have been listed in 46 straight top 25 polls to date.
  • Georgia Tech is one of three ACC teams inside the top 15 (No. 2 Louisville, No. 8 Pitt).
  • As a unit, the nation’s No. 11 squad is currently second in the ACC kills per set (13.61). The Yellow Jackets are also sitting in third in the league in assists per set (12.55) and fourth in the conference in hitting percentage (.247).
  • Senior outside hitter Julia Bergmann continues to lead the ACC in kills per set (5.24) and points per set (5.85) as she’s third in the nation in the former and fourth in the NCAA in the latter. Bergmann is up to seven 20+ kill outings this season, four of which have come against ranked opponents including the most recent match against No. 8 Pitt.
  • Bergmann is currently 10th in program history in career kills with 1,460 kills during her time on The Flats.
  • Bergmann added her fifth double double of the season behind 25 kills, 15 digs and five blocks against No. 8 Pitt. The decorated outside hitter is now up to six double-digit dig matches this season.
  • Going beyond 2019’s NIVC title, Tech has won 69 of its last 85 matches.
  • Over the course of the past four seasons, Georgia Tech is 42-6 at home in O’Keefe Gymnasium. Tech is 301-103 (.744) all time in O’Keefe Gymnasium’s 28-year history.

Series History

  • Tech currently leads Clemson 38-35 in the all-time series. The Yellow Jackets have defeated the Tigers 11 consecutive times going back to 2016, including seven on The Flats and four on the road.
  • A season ago, the Jackets swept the Tigers on the road and at home.
  • The White and Gold lead the series 23-14 at home.
  • Tech also claimed nine consecutive matchups from 2000-04, with four coming in O’Keefe Gymnasium and five in Clemson, S.C.
  • Tech trails Duke 46-25 in the all-time series.
  • As of late, the Jackets have won the last four contests, most recently sweeping the Blue Devils on The Flats last season.
  • Georgia Tech’s most successful stretch against Duke came from 2002-04 as the Jackets won six consecutive matches, including sweeps in the last four contests.

Georgia Tech will return home to host Boston College (13-7, 1-5 ACC) on Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. and Syracuse (8-8, 4-2 ACC) on Oct. 23 at 1 p.m. in O’Keefe Gymnasium. Both contests will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
