No. 10 Georgia Tech Awaits Boston College, Syracuse

THE FLATS – No. 10 Georgia Tech volleyball (13-4, 6-2 ACC) returns to O’Keefe Gymnasium for its final two-match homestand of the regular season, hosting Boston College (14-8, 2-6 ACC) on Friday at 7 p.m. and Syracuse (9-9, 5-3 ACC) on Sunday at 1 p.m. Both contests are sold out to the general public, but will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.

Parking

For both matches, free parking will be available in the McCamish Pavilion lot, the East O’Keefe Gymnasium lot and the Family Housing lot. Some congestion is expected due to softball’s fall doubleheader against Bevill State starting at 6 p.m. at Mewborn Field.

Georgia Tech’s radio broadcast for home matches throughout the season will be streamed online HERE.

Promotions

On Friday against Boston College, gold Georgia Tech key straps will be handed out while supplies last. Sunday’s match against Syracuse will represent this season’s Halloween match. Fans are encouraged to wear costumes, and candy will be handed out while supplies last. Sunday’s match will also be a part of ACC Unity Week.

Tickets

Although general admission tickets have been sold out, 200 tickets remain available for Georgia Tech students with free admission at the door on a first-come, first-served basis. A valid BuzzCard must be displayed in order for students to receive a ticket to the match.

Storylines

  • Tech owns 10 sweeps on the year, including five in the ACC, after picking up another last weekend over Clemson.
  • The Jackets were ranked No. 10 in this week’s AVCA DI Coaches Preseason Poll.
  • The 10 spot ties the seventh-highest ranking received by the White and Gold in program history, joining the 2003 squad.
  • Georgia Tech’s selection marks the sixth appearance in the AVCA’s top 10 in nine polls this season.
  • The Yellow Jackets have been listed in 47 straight top 25 polls to date.
  • Georgia Tech is one of three ACC teams inside the top 10 (No. 2 Louisville, No. 8 Pitt).
  • As a unit, Georgia Tech is currently second in the ACC in both kills per set (13.74) and assists per set (12.67). The Yellow Jackets are also sitting in fourth in the league in hitting percentage (.257).
  • Senior outside hitter Julia Bergmann continues to lead the ACC in kills per set (5.28) and points per set (5.92) as she’s fourth in the NCAA in both.
  • The decorated attacker also recently climbed deeper into the Tech record books as she moved to fifth all time in career aces (149) and ninth in program history in career kills (1,497).
  • Bergmann is up to seven 20+ kill outings this season, four of which have come against ranked opponents.
  • Bergmann added her sixth double double of the season behind 19 kills and 10 digs against Duke. The vaunted Yellow Jacket is now up to seven double-digit dig matches this season.
  • Going beyond 2019’s NIVC title, Tech has won 71 of its last 87 matches.
  • Over the course of the past four seasons, Georgia Tech is 43-6 at home in O’Keefe Gymnasium. Tech is 302-103 (.744) all time in O’Keefe Gymnasium’s 28-year history.

Series History

  • Tech leads Syracuse 7-6 in the all-time series. The Yellow Jackets have won the last three matchups, including a victory each at home, at a neutral site and most recently on the road. Tech leads the series 5-1 at home and 1-0 in neutral-site matches.
  • Georgia Tech leads Boston College 24-5 in all-time matches, sweeping the last two meetings. The Yellow Jackets own the longest winning streak of the series after taking 18 straight from 2006-16. Tech also swept the first three matchups of the two programs, leading the series 16-2 at home and 8-3 on the road.

Up Next

Georgia Tech will begin a four-match road stint with another trip to The Triangle, beginning Oct. 28 at North Carolina (11-8, 3-5 ACC) at 6 p.m. in Chapel Hill, N.C. before concluding the weekend on Oct. 30 at NC State (11-9, 5-4 ACC) at 1 p.m. in Raleigh, N.C. Both contests will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
