Nicole Fegans Sets New 1500m School Record

THE FLATS – In what was her final home meet of her illustrious Georgia Tech career, Nicole Fegans set a new program record in the 1500m and set a new facility record, en route to winning the 5000m.

The 5k saw Fegans and four professional runners from the Atlanta Track Club were the lead pack for the beginning of the race. Fegans stayed in the back of the pack, waiting for her moment to pounce. Fegans passed one of the Atlanta Track Club runners at the 2200m split and the lead runner fell off at the 2600m split, leaving Fegans in third place.

Fegans moved into second at 3000m, just 0.08 seconds behind first. Fegans, and her professional running competition would trade first for the next three laps before Fegans stepped into first place and hammered home the victory with a final lap that was 1.5 seconds better than anyone else, to finish at 16:02.97, over 10 seconds better than the previous facility record.

In the 1500m, Fegans was shoulder to shoulder with Sarah Hendrik of Kennesaw State at every split with Hendrick before a race to the finish which Hendrick won. Fegans still clocked in at 4:16.34 to improve her own school record in the 1500m.

Tech had many top finishes across the track on the day. Olivia Moore was to top women’s pole vaulter on the day, securing a mark of 4.20m (13’9 ¼”) and Taylor Grimes finished second in the women’s 100m hurdles with a time of 13.55 seconds.
