Ngo, O'Neill Advance on First Day of ITA All-American Championships

Prequalifying Singles Draw

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – Juniors Viet Ha Ngo and Jillian O’Neill each won a pair singles matches Saturday to earn a spot in the third round of the prequalifying draw at the 2010 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships.

The day began with prequalifying doubles, where Georgia Tech had one team participate. Jillian O’Neill and Elizabeth Kilborn dropped a tough match to Claire Clark and Monica Winkel of Louisiana-Monroe, 9-8 (1).

In singles, O’Neill shook off her doubles loss to upend No. 7-seeded Anamika Bhargava of Pepperdine, 6-2, 6-0 in the first round of the prequalifying draw. She came back later in the day and got past Angelina Jogasuria to set up a match against Sofie Oyen of Florida Sunday.

Ngo earned wins over Aleksandra Malyarchikova of SMU and North Florida’s Aline Berkenbrock to get to Sunday’s third round. She will face the Gators’ Joanna Matherfor a spot in the qualifying draw.

Caroline Lilley won her first round match Saturday over Maya Johansson of UCLA, 6-2, 6-2 but dropped a second-round match against Connie Chieh Yu Hsu of Penn.
