Men's Tennis Closes Out Fall Season

Lucas Yunez completed a three-win singles weekend from Line 1

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team completed its weekend from the Alabama Four-in-the-Fall following a 4-2 defeat to Alabama on Sunday afternoon.

The matchup opened with a tightly contested doubles round on both courts. The freshman duo of Mason Taube and Lucas Yunez held down Line 1 with senior team Owen DeMuth and Elias Shokry. Both matches went the distance at 6-6 as DeMuth and Shokry pulled through at 7-5 with Alabama winning the Line 1 tiebreaker by the same scoreline.

Yunez led the Jackets on Line 1 in singles play and handled his business. The freshman worked through the first set and broke Alabama’s Braden Hannig at the right moment to win the first set 6-4 before dominating the final frame with two service breaks to win 6-2.

Yunez was untouchable throughout the weekend in singles, winning all three of his matches in straight sets. He finishes the fall with 10 singles wins to his name, claiming victory in seven of his last eight matches.

The Crimson Tide notched a straight-sets win on Line 4 before Shokry retired after the first set of his match for Alabama to hold a 3-2 lead. Taube dropped a first-set tiebreaker before responding with a 6-3 second frame. His opponent, sophomore Rihan Hazratwala, battled tough and the two were level at 5-5 before Hazratwala won the final two games to seal the match victory.

The Jackets conclude the fall campaign with 40 singles wins across the team headlined by the freshman Yunez (10) and Taube (7). Seniors Richard Biagiotti and Irwanto notched six victories over the individual season with Shokry claiming five.

Tech will return to The Flats in January to open the spring season, stay tuned for the unveiling of 2027 spring schedule!
