THE FLATS -- Georgia Tech Baseball completed its 2026 Fall schedule with a 15-2 loss against Tennessee on Sunday afternoon from inside Erlanger Park in Chattanooga, Tenn. The Jackets took the lead in the fourth inning off a two-run homer from Nathanael Coupet but the Volunteers battled back in the late innings and GT’s record finishes at 3-1 in the Fall exhibition season.
Josh Gunther made the start. The senior transfer from South Carolina allowed only one run on one hit in two innings of work before giving way to Jamie Vicens who pitched two scoreless innings with three strikeouts and only one hit allowed, which was erased on a strike ‘em out, throw ‘em out double play with Coupet. The pitching ran into some trouble after the fourth and couldn’t put another zero on the board for the remainder of the game.
Offensively, Tech struggled to establish a consistent strike zone with the exception of Coupet, who connected for a two-run home run in the fourth inning, scoring Holden Pantier. The Jackets would get into deep counts and get runners on consistently but unfortunate lineouts to the first basemen ended up as double plays, foul balls were tracked down in foul territory and the Jackets couldn’t muster enough good bounces to make a more significant dent on the scoreboard.
Tech finishes its Fall season with a 3-1 record, thanks to wins over Alabama (W, 6-4) and Clemson (W, 6-3 and W, 8-5) from earlier in the year. The Yellow Jackets will return to the field in February, hoping to become the first back-to-back-to-back ACC regular season champions in 24 years. The 2027 schedule will be announced soon.
