Yunez and Irwanto Headline Day 2 from Tuscaloosa

Lucas Yunez continues his impressive run with two Line 1 wins

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team dropped its team match against Tulane, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon.

The freshman duo of Mason Taube and Lucas Yunez pulled through in doubles after a lengthy battle on Line 1, winning the tiebreaker 7-5 to claim the first doubles win for the Jackets of the weekend. Tulane evened the team score at 1-1 after winning 6-0 on Line 2.

Yunez notched his second win of the season against an opponent with a sub-7 WTN rating yesterday and maintained his form going into today. He won the first tiebreaker 7-5 before carefully working through the second set 6-3 to win his match. The freshman secures his second Line 1 win in back-to-back days.

Tulane won both matches on Lines 2 and 4 in straight sets as Jonathan Irwanto worked through a 6-4 first frame and won the second-set tiebreaker 7-5. Leveling the score at 3-3 to set up the deciding doubles match.

Taube and Yunez partnered up for the deciding match and exchanged 6-0 sets with Tulane’s Daniel Phillips and Santiago Padilla Cote. The Green Wave duo handled their business in the final frame, winning the third-set tiebreaker 10-4.
