Tech Completes Weekend at Blue Gray

Jackets’ main squad placed third overall in the event

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team closed out its run at the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic on Saturday. The Jackets racked up eight wins on each day, placing third overall with its main squad.

GT resumed its second round of play with singles matches across the courts. Elias Shokry won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, while freshman Mason Taube pulled away after winning the first-set tiebreaker. Texas Tech won the remaining singles matches to win the round and advance to the championship matchup.

Freshman Lucas Yunez rallied from a set down to win 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, over his South Alabama opponent while Memphis’ Lasse Rensing secured the crucial singles win to claim the matchup for the mixed squad GT and Memphis players and move into the fifth-place match.

After dropping both doubles matches, Tech rebounded in singles play quickly with three first-set singles wins. Taube put away his Alabama opponent after a second-set tiebreaker win to lock down his second win of the day while Biagiotti and Shokry were tasked with third set battles.

Both Yellow Jackets completed identical scorelines, winning 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 to provide the tying point in the matchup. Taube and Shokry won the tiebreaker with a 10-point doubles battle over Alabama to finish third overall. The duo of Georgia Tech and Memphis players pulled out a 3-2 win after both Memphis’ players managaed sraight-set vicories in singles play.

Tech finished the weekend with 16 total wins, Shokry and Taube leading the charge by winning all three singles matches and doubles victories for each. The Jackets will return home to host the 2026 ITA Men’s Southeast Regional Championships from October 14-19.
