MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team returned to the court with eight individual victories on Friday at the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic.
The Jackets opened the day with three wins in three matches in doubles play. The duo of Gianluca and Mason Taube handled their business with a 6-3 victory as senior duo Richard Biagiotti and Elias Shokry provided the same result, putting the Jackets up 2-0 in their matchup over Alabama State.
Tech’s third pairing of Jonathan Irwanto and Lucas Yunez pulled through in the set tiebreaker 7-4 to win their match over Alabama. The two are teamed up with two Memphis players who dropped their doubles match 6-3, leaving the score level at 1-1 in the matchup.
Tech continued its strong start by winning all four singles matches in the Alabama State matchup. Carlini won 12 of 14 games played in his match with Biagiotti and Taube taking their matches in straight sets. Shokry overcame his first set loss to win his match in three sets. Yunez and Irwanto dropped their singles matches in straight sets.
The Jackets dropped both doubles matches against Texas Tech to open the second round as Yunez and Irwanto’s match was ruled a walkover. Singles matchups from the second round will begin tomorrow before playing through a third round of action.

Full Steam Ahead is a $500 million fundraising initiative to achieve Georgia Tech athletics’ goal of competing for championships at the highest level in the next era of intercollegiate athletics.
