THE FLATS - The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team completed its run in the ITA Southeast Regional Championships on Saturday afternoon. Gianluca Carlini and Mason Taube reached the quarterfinals in doubles off three wins in three days.
Tech featured two doubles pairings for the third round of play with Gianluca Carlini and Mason Taube and senior duo Richard Biagiotti and Elias Shokry. Carlini and Taube worked through their match against Florida Gulf Coast’s Hugo Magnusson and Stefan Correa with a crucial break late to win 8-6 while Biagiotti and Shokry dropped a 8-4 result in the third round.
Carlini and Taube became the first Yellow Jackets to advance to ITA Regionals quarterfinals in doubles since Christoophe Clement and Krish Arora’s semifinal appearance in 2024. Carlini improved on last year’s run after making it to the third round.
The duo faced off against UCF’s Nicolas Oliveira and Clement Lemire and went to battle. Games were traded back-and-forth as both teams held firm on their service games. The match was at 7-7 before requiring the tiebreaker which Oliveira and Lemire powered through with a 7-2 win.
Tech concluded a successful home event which saw many strong runs including Yunez’s push to the third round of singles after starting from the first round of qualifying and Carlini and Taube’s quarterfinal appearance. The Jackets will have one more chance to secure spots for the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships at the ITA Sectionals Championships from November 5-8 in Gainesville, Florida.
