Haynes Named a Comeback Player of the Week

THE FLATS – After amassing 117 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns against No. 18 Tennessee in Week 2, the Comeback Player of the Year Award has selected Georgia Tech senior running back Justice Haynes (Alpharetta, Ga./Buford H.S.) as one of its six Comeback Players of the Week.

Each week, the Comeback Player of the Year award honors three offensive players and three defensive players from its official preseason watch list as Comeback Players of the Week. The Comeback Player of the Week and Comeback Player of the Year awards recognize college football student-athletes that have overcome injury, illness or other circumstances to excel on the field.

With 81 rushing yards and 36 receiving yards against the 18^th-ranked Vols, Haynes eclipsed 100 yards from scrimmage for the first time as a Yellow Jacket and the seventh time in his last nine games overall, dating back to last season at Michigan. However, with a 2-yard touchdown catch and a 2-yard touchdown run, it marked only the fourth time in Haynes’ 34-game collegiate career that he totaled 100 yards and scored twice in the same game.

Haynes was included on the Comeback Player of the Year award watch list after sustaining an injury that limited him to just seven games at Michigan in 2025. He ran for 857 yards and 10 touchdowns in his seven games with the Wolverines, and was the nation’s third-leading rusher (122.4 ypg) at the time of his season-ending injury.

Haynes and the Yellow Jackets close a three-game, season-opening homestand on Saturday when they host Mercer on Family Weekend at Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field. Kickoff is set for noon.
