Tech Returns Home to Face Northeastern

Jackets and Huskies tip off at 7:30 p.m. Friday at McCamish Pavilion

GEORGIA TECH VS. NORTHEASTERN

THE FLATS – Looking to remain undefeated at home and bounce back from an ACC/Big Ten Challenge loss Tuesday, Georgia Tech is back at McCamish Pavilion Friday evening to face Northeastern for a 7:30 p.m. tip.

Tech (4-3) has dropped three of its last four games, falling to Utah and Marquette in the Fort Myers Tip-Off Thanksgiving week and to Iowa Tuesday night in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The Yellow Jackets have defeated Clayton State, Northern Illinois and North Alabama at home, and Georgia State on the road. The game against the Huskies is the first of two straight at McCamish Pavilion for Tech, which hosts Georgia next Tuesday night.

Northeastern (1-5), a member of the Colonial Athletic Association, has played five of its six games away from home. The Huskies have not played since last week, when they defeated Manhattan for their only win to date and lost to Princeton in the London (England) Basketball Classic. Northeastern has also lost to Boston University, Providence and Syracuse on the road, and Harvard at home.

Friday’s game will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra and ESPN+, both available on the ESPN app. Radio coverage is on the Georgia Tech Sports Network by Legends Sports and flagship station 680 the Fan (680 AM/93.7 FM), and also on satellite radio (SiriusXM channel 385, SXM app 975.

SERIES VS. NORTHEASTERN

  • Georgia Tech and Northeastern are meeting in men’s basketball for the first time.
  • Tech is 23-3 all-time against current members of the Colonial Athletic Association. The most recent meeting occurred on Nov. 11, 2015, a 64-41 Yellow Jacket victory over Elon at McCamish Pavilion.

  • Georgia Tech ended its run in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge with a 9-13 record, 3-4 under head coach Josh Pastner.
  • Tech has utilized a nine-player rotation in each of its first seven games. All nine scored points against Clayton State and Northern Illinois, while eight registered in the scoring column at Georgia State. Seven tallied against Utah, nine of 10 scored against Marquette and all eight scored against North Alabama. Seven of nine scored against Iowa.
  • Tech has shot under 40 percent in five of its seven games this season, the exceptions being North Alabama (59.6 percent) and Clayton State (47.9 percent).
  • Tech has won the turnover battle in five of seven games. The Yellow Jackets committed 11 against Iowa to the Hawkeyes’ nine. have a season turnover margin of plus-2.7.
  • Tech has limited its foes to 26.6-percent from three-point range this season. Utah (31.3 percent), Marquette (39.1 percent) and Iowa (34.6 percent) have connected on 30 percent or better.
  • Tech has held four of its seven opponents under 90 points per 100 possessions in KenPom.com’s metric, and the Jackets are at 96.8 for the season, No. 83 in the nation. Utah, Marquette and Iowa were above 100, with the Hawkeyes posting a 125.1 efficiency rate, high against the Jackets this season.
  • Miles Kelly scored a career-high 21 points against Iowa and dropped a career-best four three-point field goals. Kelly has scored in double figures in five of seven games.
  • Kelly snapped a three-point slump of 2-for-19 in the previous four games, 0-for-5 in the last two games, by hitting 4-of-8 against Iowa. He failed to make a three-pointer for the second straight game, however, and is 0-for-5 in the last two games.
  • Deebo Coleman has made a three in all seven games this season and has connected on 37.1 percent from distance. Coleman has scored in double figures in five of seven games.
  • Deivon Smith has scored in double figures in five of Tech’s seven games.
  • Smith remains the Yellow Jackets’ No. 2 rebounder at 6.3 per game after grabbing eight at Iowa.
  • Smith has 20 assists in his last five games (4.0 per game) and leads the Yellow Jackets with 3.3 per game.
  • Jalon Moore has scored in double figures three times this season, including each of the last two games in which he has averaged 11.5 points on 10-of-16 field goal attempts, and 8.0 rebounds.
  • Ja’von Franklin has blocked at least one shot in every game this season and has averaged 2.4 for the season, second in the ACC. He has 17 total blocks, three shy of Rodney Howard’s team-leading total of 20 from 2021-22.

Competitive Drive Initiative

In a unified endeavor, Georgia Tech, the Georgia Tech Foundation, Georgia Tech athletics and the Alexander-Tharpe Fund have come together to accelerate funding for student-athlete scholarships with the launch of the Competitive Drive Initiative. The initiative kicks off with the Accelerate GT Match Program, where any new gift to the A-T Fund’s Athletic Scholarship Fund made through Dec. 31 will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Georgia Tech Foundation, up to $2.5 million. Should Accelerate GT reach its $2.5 million fundraising goal, the matching gift would result in a $5 million impact for Georgia Tech athletics.
