Tech Records NCAA Qualifying Performances at UGA Invite

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech swimming and diving teams finished with another school record in addition to multiple NCAA ‘B’ Cut and NCAA Zone Diving performances on the second day of competition at the UGA Invite.

Once again, Deniz Ertan led the Jackets with another recording breaking performance. Ertan broke the school record in the women’s 400 IM with an NCAA ‘B’ Cut time of 4:09.68. McKenzie Campbell also earned an NCAA ‘B’ Cut time of 4:14.58 in the event. In the men’s 400 IM, Nils Bognar swam an NCAA ‘B’ Cut time of 3:47.89.

Batur Ünlü placed second in the men’s 200 free with an NCAA ‘B’ Cut qualifying time of 1:32.94. Zora Ripkova qualified for the finals of the women’s 100 fly with an NCAA ‘B’ Cut time of 53.64 in preliminaries.

Four Jackets recorded NCAA Zone Diving qualifying scores. Anna Bradescu (264.55/271.55), Carmen Woodruff (251.35/238.85) and Katie McKyton (243.50/240.50) finished with top performances in the women’s 1 Meter Dive. Ruben Lechuga placed second in the men’s 3 Meter Dive with a score of 324.40 in prelims and a score of 370.25 points in the finals.

Tech earned three NCAA ‘B’ Cut qualifying times in the 100 breast. Clarissa Sabin placed fourth with a time of 1:01.00 in preliminaries and 1:01.12 in the finals. On the men’s side, Leandro Odorici finished sixth (52.78) and Daniel Kertesz finished ninth (53.41).

Berke Saka was the final Jacket of the day to earn an NCAA ‘B’ Cut time in the men’s 100 back (45.60), placing third in the event.

The women’s 800 free relay team of Ripkova, Ertan, Ari Sakellaris and Brooke Switzer place third with a time of 7:12.00. The men’s 800 free relay team of Ünlü, Saka, Wiggo Frohde and Kertesz finished fourth with a time of 6:22.74.

Tech will conclude competition at the UGA Invite on Saturday, Nov. 19 with preliminaries starting at 9:30 a.m.

 

Competitive Drive Initiative

The initiative kicks off with the Accelerate GT Match Program, where any new gift to the A-T Fund’s Athletic Scholarship Fund made through Dec. 31 will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Georgia Tech Foundation, up to $2.5 million. Should Accelerate GT reach its $2.5 million fundraising goal, the matching gift would result in a $5 million impact for Georgia Tech athletics.
