How it Happened
Florida State had all the momentum early in the first set, speeding out to a 7-1 lead. Georgia Tech would climb back with four straight points to cut the deficit to 7-5, but the Seminoles responded with a streak of six to extend the lead to 13-5. As the set continued to flow, Tech pulled back near once more with six points in seven chances, drawing within three to trail 15-12. Florida State put things out of reach from there, going on an eight-point run and capping the set soon after for a 25-14 win in set one.
The second set was competitive throughout as Tech used a four-point burst to take a narrow lead, 8-6. The Noles answered shortly with an identical run to slip ahead by three, but five following points in favor of the White and Gold put the Jackets back on top, 15-13. As both sides traded a pair of blows each, Florida State put together a crucial stretch of six points in seven chances, moving ahead, 21-18. The momentum shifter proved to be the difference as the Noles went on to claim set two, 25-21.
Georgia Tech began its comeback by jumping on top early in set four, using a streak of four to cruise out to a 7-3 lead. The Yellow Jackets continued to pace ahead, using a three-point run to increase the advantage to 13-7 before four points in five chances also went the White and Gold’s way, widening the gap to 21-12. Florida State managed to trim the lead to five, but Tech closed things out as a Morrissette kill secured a 25-19 victory in set three.
The Jackets kept rolling into the fourth set, steadily building their lead as four bursts of three powered the White and Gold up to a double-digit advantage, 16-6. The Seminoles rallied back despite the deficit, stringing together 10 consecutive points to cut the deficit to one, but Tech still managed to avoid surrendering the lead. A run of three soon after increased the advantage to four, setting up Bergmann to cap the set with a kill followed by her second most important ace of the match in succession, resulting in a 25-20 triumph in set four to push the match to five sets.
With the match on the line, the Yellow Jackets did damage early, vaulting in front by matching each Seminole point with two of their own up to a 7-3 advantage. Georgia Tech wouldn’t allow Florida State to trim the lead down to less than three from there as the two squads alternated points until the White and Gold claimed the final two points. None other than Bergmann clinched the match, doing so from the service line as her third ace of the match resulted in a 15-10 win in set five for a 3-2 match victory.

Competitive Drive Initiative
In a unified endeavor, Georgia Tech, the Georgia Tech Foundation, Georgia Tech athletics and the Alexander-Tharpe Fund have come together to accelerate funding for student-athlete scholarships with the launch of the Competitive Drive Initiative. The initiative kicks off with the Accelerate GT Match Program, where any new gift to the A-T Fund’s Athletic Scholarship Fund made through Dec. 31 will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Georgia Tech Foundation, up to $2.5 million. Should Accelerate GT reach its $2.5 million fundraising goal, the matching gift would result in a $5 million impact for Georgia Tech athletics.
