Forrester Earns Top-10 Finish at Ben Hogan Collegiate

Fort Worth, Texas – Bartley Forrester notched his sixth career top-10 finish and fifth in the last two years, after carding a 2-over-par 72 in the final round of the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational and tying for sixth place. Georgia Tech, meanwhile, shot a 5-over-par team score of 285 Tuesday and finished in a tie for 12^th place in its third event of the fall season.

The senior from Gainesville, Ga., who held the 36-hole lead by one shot, aiming for his third career victory, posted a 54-hole total of 206 (-4), four strokes off the lead.

The Yellow Jackets return to action Oct. 21-23, concluding their fall campaign by hosting the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational at its home course in Alpharetta, Ga.

TECH LINEUP – Christo Lamprecht set the pace for the Yellow Jackets in Tuesday’s final round, recording four birdies and one bogey on the way to a 3-under-par 67 as Tech posted a 5-over-par team total of 285. Forrester and Connor Howe each shot 2-over-par 72, while freshman Aidan Tran added a 4-over 74. Freshman Hiroshi Tai shot 75 and did not count toward the team score.

Lamprecht, coming off a victory in the Jackets’ most recent outing at the Inverness Intercollegiate, tied for 27^th place individually at 212 (+2), while Tran and Tai tied for 65^th at 220 (+10) and Howe tied for 74^th at 224 (+14).

TEAM LEADERBOARD – In a field stacked with 13 teams ranked in the top 25 of the most recent coaches’ poll, No. 13 North Carolina came away with the team trophy, posting a 5-under-par 275 Tuesday for a 54-hole total of 825 (-15). That was good for a nine-stroke victory over No. 7 Texas Tech, which also shot 275 Tuesday and put up a 6-under-par total of 834.

No. 25 Pepperdine and No. 6 Arizona State tied for third place at 835 (-5), while top-ranked Vanderbilt came in fifth at 1-under-par 839.

From a tie for the lead after 18 holes, Tech fell back to 10^th after 36 holes and a tie for 12^th at the end, 30 strokes behind the winning Tar Heels, tied with No. 2 Oklahoma.

INDIVIDUAL LEADERBOARD – Three Tar Heels placed among the top 10 individuals, but Gustav Frimodt of the host TCU tram grabbed medalist honors, firing a 65 Tuesday to finish at 8-under-par 202, one stroke better than Pepperdine’s William Mouw (203, -7).

The Tar Heels’ Austin Greaser tied for third place at 6-under-par 204 with Vanderbilt’s Gordon Sargent and Texas’ Christian Maas. Tech’s Forrester and UNC’s David Ford tied for sixth at 206 (-4), while the Tar Heels’ Dylan Menante was in a group of six players tied for eighth at 207 (-3).

TOURNAMENT INFORMATION – The Yellow Jackets competed in the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational, hosted by TCU, for the first time. Colonial Country Club, the venue for the tournament which measures 7,204 yards and plays to a par of 70, has hosted an annual PGA Tour event since 1946, the longest running non-major tour event to be held at the same venue. The club was started in 1936 and hosted the 1941 U.S. Open, the 1975 Tournament Players Championship and the 1991 U.S. Women’s Open. The course sits along the bank of the Trinity River and is located less than a mile from the campus of TCU.

The Ben Hogan event field featured 14 teams that competed in the 2022 NCAA Championship, including all eight that advanced to match play. Thirteen of the 16 teams were ranked among the nation’s top 25 according to the Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches Poll of Sept. 30. The complete field (with current Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches ranking) – Vanderbilt (1), Oklahoma (2), Stanford (t3), Arizona State (6), Texas Tech (7), Georgia Tech (8), Florida (10), Oklahoma State (11), North Carolina (13), Georgia (17), Texas (19), Wake Forest (t21), Pepperdine (25), Oregon (29), Southern California and TCU.
