Transfer Lance Terry Inks Grant with Tech

THE FLATS – Lance Terry, a high-scoring guard from the Atlanta area who earned All-Big South recognition in 2021-22 at Gardner-Webb University, has signed a grant-in-aid to join the Georgia Tech program and will enroll for the summer term.

The 6-2, 180-pound guard, who attended The Heritage School in Atlanta and attracted recruiting interest out from Tech, DePaul and Georgia State out of high school, has two years of eligibility remaining. He helped lead the Runnin’ Bulldogs to an 18-13 overall record last season, including an 11-5 mark in the Big South, the program’s best as a member of that conference.

“We’re excited about Lance joining our program,” said head coach Josh Pastner. “I think he is sneaky good and under the radar. He has a chance to be a good addition to our team.”

Terry averaged 14.3 points in 2021-22, second on his team, 3.4 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.0 steals per game while hitting 45.9 percent of his shots from the floor, 35.0 percent from three-point range and 81.2 percent from the foul line. He was No. 2 on the team in attempts form the floor, from three-point range and from the charity stripe.

He averaged 11.4 points, shooting 39.2 percent from three-point range and 84.4 percent from the foul line as a sophomore, when his season was limited to nine games because of injury. One of those games was a 23-point outburst at Florida State.

The College Park, Ga., native achieved some of his gest games against power conference teams. Last season, he scored 15 at Arkansas and 15 at Duke in back-to-back games in November, and 14 in a win at Georgia in December.

“They’re closer to home and they’re in a bigger conference … It’s the ACC,” Terry told 247Sports. “Who wouldn’t want to play in the ACC? And I like their style of play. I kind of feel like it fits my game pretty good. The coaching staff was just talking about how they feel like I can be a very good scorer on their team, not just the 3, but just scoring in all different angles and ways.”
