SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Georgia Tech softball (25-10, 6-8 ACC) lost an extra inning affair against No. 25 Notre Dame (26-7, 6-3 ACC) on Saturday at Melissa Cook Stadium. Graduate first baseman Tricia Awald became the all-time Georgia Tech leader in walks with her 152nd career walk in the top of the first.
Junior catcher Emma Kauf had two home runs, the first coming in the first and the second coming in the seventh. The Yellow Jackets got multi hit games from sophomore designated player Sara Beth Allen and senior right fielder Kennedy Cowden.
The first inning started with some major pop from the plate. Sophomore third baseman Mallorie Black led off the game with a solo shot to left field to give Tech a quick 1-0 lead. Kauf would follow her with back-to-back jacks to take the lead to 2-0.
The massive inning continued with a two-RBI single up the middle from freshman left fielder Auburn Dupree and was capped by an RBI from freshman center fielder Ella Edgmon scoring sophomore shortstop Jin Sileo.
The hot bats would continue into the second inning starting with a two-RBI single from Cowden. Sileo followed Cowden with a single through the right side to score one more. The five-run second scoring ended when Sileo and Cowden came around to score on an error from Notre Dame.
After Notre Dame answered with five of their own runs, in the bottom of the second, Tech took an 11-8 lead into the third, which Notre Dame would tie up going into the seventh.
With two down, and working ahead to a 3-1 count, Kauf blasted a ball over the deepest part of the park to give the Jackets a one-run lead.
Notre Dame would tie it up, but in the eighth freshman left fielder Grace Connelly would give Georgia Tech a one-run lead going into the bottom of the eighth.
A three-run home run would allow Notre Dame to walk-off with the win, 15-13.
