Georgia Tech Holds at 14 in Latest AVCA Top 25

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Georgia Tech volleyball (19-3, 10-2 ACC) remained No. 14 for the second consecutive week in the latest AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 Women’s Poll, the AVCA announced on Monday. The announcement shortly follows the NCAA Selection Committee’s ranking of No. 9 for the White and Gold on Sunday.

The Yellow Jackets remain among the top 15 in the nation for the third straight week after making their first appearance at No. 13 in the AVCA’s rankings two weeks ago. Since appearing in the Top 25 at No. 12 on Sept. 30, 2020, Tech has been listed in 33 straight top 25 polls to date. The Jackets are joined in the poll by No. 2 Louisville and No. 3 Pitt among the ACC ranks.

The NCAA Selection Committee released its first rankings of the season for matches played through Oct. 27 on Sunday, with Tech cracking the top 10 coming in at No. 9. The Yellow Jackets were also tabbed No. 7 in the NCAA’s Rating Percentage Index for the second week in a row, tying their highest rank of the season.

Tech maintains its position amongst the country’s best following yet another undefeated ACC weekend in which the Jackets swept North Carolina and handled NC State for a 3-1 win.

Georgia Tech, currently riding an eight-match win streak, has now won 51 of its last 60 matches dating back to 2019. The Yellow Jackets have won 30 of their last 34 matches at home in O’Keefe Gymnasium and are a perfect 9-0 in true road matches this season, going 7-0 away from The Flats in ACC play.

On the year, Georgia Tech boasts some of the top numbers in the country, ranking second in the nation and leading the league in kills per set (14.82) while placing fourth in the NCAA and topping the ACC in assists per set (13.49). The Jackets are also currently seventh in the country and second in the conference in hitting percentage (0.288).

Junior outside hitter Julia Bergmann has been the driving force behind Tech’s vaunted attack, leading the ACC in both points per set and kills per set. On a national scale, her 5.37 points per set rank 10th in the country while her 4.67 kills per set are good for 13^th in the nation. Senior setter Matti McKissock has been the architect behind the Yellow Jackets’ strong assist numbers, leading the ACC and placing fifth in the nation in assists per set (11.35) as she continues her climb in Georgia Tech history. McKissock currently owns the third most career assists in school history while leading the program in career assists during the 25-point rally scoring era with 3,666 to date.
