Matthews, Hauch Named CoSIDA Academic All-District

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech pole vaulter Brian Hauch and long and triple jumper Bria Matthews have been named to the 2020-21 Academic All-District Track and Field and Cross Country teams selected and announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Matthews, a graduate student from Morrow, Ga., earned All-America status at the 2021 NCAA Track and Field Championships this spring in Eugene, Ore. Matthews garnered first team All-America honors in the women’s triple jump after setting a new personal and school record in the event after leaping for a mark of 13.90m/45′ 7.25″ to take sixth-place overall. She also was women’s field MVP at the ACC Championships after earning silver medals in the long and triple jumps. Matthews has a 3.70 grade-point average in her Master’s degree in electrical and computer engineering. As an undergraduate student, she earned Faculty Honors four times and Dean’s List honors four times in compiling a 3.92 GPA.

Hauch, a junior from Lilburn, Ga., qualified for the NCAA East Regional this spring in the pole vault. He earned a 3.92 GPA in mechanical engineering and has earned Faculty Honors three times.

The 2020-21 Academic All-District® Men’s and Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in the competition realm and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in mid-August.

To be eligible for CoSIDA Academic honors, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.
